Europe's second tier cup competition also known as UEFA Europa League may not have the same financial rewards for competing clubs as Champions League but it still a tournament clubs would rather win then nothing. The prize money fund for Europa League is dwarfed by that of Champions League. Only around $450 million is distributed among participating clubs in Europa League. The winners can take home as much as $30 to $40 million. But that is nothing compared to what Champions League offer where winners from Top european leagues can take home upwards of $100 million. Even if teams get knocked out in group stage they can still make more than Europa League winners.

However you can not win something if you can not compete in it right ? so Europa League is the next best thing compared to Champions League. Just ask Sevilla!. Europa League was started back in 1960s as UEFA Cup or Cup Winners Cup where teams who win their domestic cup competitions were invited to compete. But in 2002/03 season it was rebranded as UEFA Europa League and group stage was added in what was a knockout competition only.

Since then it has grown steadily and now teams who cant qualify for Champions League really take this competition seriously. Manchester United, Chelsea won the competition in recent years before that if they played in Europa League they never took it seriosly and played their second string teams.
